Outstanding Results

Students from Chiron’s Piano departments, as well as several of our Chiron Charitable Trust Scholarship holders, took part recently in Auckland’s 67th Annual North Shore Piano Competition and came away with a truly outstanding number of prizes for their performances! Our students achieved success in more than 25 categories, in age groups ranging from as young as 7-9 years all the way up to 18 and over – truly showing what a breadth of talent we have across all our students.

Our warmest congratulations to all of our students who took part! For brevity, we have chosen to focus on some of our highest achieving students but for the full list please see below.

– Chiron student and Scholarship holder Annie Ye was awarded first prize for both the Classical and Romantic/Modern categories for ages 7-9, as well as second place for a performance of a NZ composition (13 and younger).

– Isabelle Wu was awarded five prizes, including first place in the Piano Scholarship (Junior) category and second place in the Solo: Own Selection category (12-15 years).

– Catherine Li was awarded six prizes, including first place for Reading at Sight (ages 14-16), second place in the Piano Scholarship (Intermediate) category and third place in the Romantic/Modern category (ages 14-16). She also received a Highly Commended award in the Piano Recital category (ages 15-17).

– Geoffrey Hill received five awards, including first place for a solo performance of an NZ Composition (14-16 years) and in the Solo Classical: Own Selection category. He was also awarded third place in the Piano Concerto category, ages 12-17.

– Chiron Scholarship holder Yuzhang Wu was awarded first place in the Piano Concerto category for ages 12-17.

– Chiron Scholarship holder Shuan Liu was awarded first place in the Sonata Recital category, as well as third place in the Pianoforte: Romantic or Modern Own Selection (17 years and older)

– Chiron Scholarship holder Catherine Chang was awarded first prize in the Piano Recital category (18 years and older), as well as first place for Reading at Sight (17 and older) and third prize in the Sonata Recital category.
