Frank (Jia Wen) Chen

Frank holds a Master of Music in Performance from the University of Auckland. He is actively involved in both teaching and performing, dedicating his time to nurturing the next generation of musicians while continuing his own musical journey.
He has studied under esteemed mentors, including Bryan Sayer (former Head of Performance at the University of Auckland, School of Music), Rae de Lisle (former Head of Performance), and Stephen De Pledge (current Head of Performance).
His performance career has taken him across the globe, with appearances in Taiwan, Sydney, Chicago, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and throughout New Zealand. He has participated in numerous competitions, earning third place at the National Piano Competition and receiving an award for Best Classical Sonata.
As a dedicated teacher, several of his students have achieved first place in competitions across North Shore, South Auckland, and West Auckland. Some have gone on to pursue further music studies at the University of Auckland.
During his studies, he was the recipient of multiple scholarships, including the Janetta McStay Prize for Pianists, the Rive Memorial Scholarship, and the Haydn Staples Scholarship, which offered him valuable concerto and orchestral experiences.
He remains deeply grateful for the opportunities he has received and is committed to sharing his passion and knowledge of music with others.
