Lulu Feng
Piano • Established Artist
Lulu Feng began her piano journey at the age of four in Guangzhou, China, studying under Professor Du Minshan, Head of Piano at the Xinghai Conservatory. At thirteen, she relocated to New Zealand, where she continued her musical development with Wang Yu in Auckland, further refining her performance skills and musical foundation.
She later completed her tertiary studies at the University of Auckland, training under renowned teachers including Stephen De Pledge, Sarah Watkins, Katherine Austin, and Millie Locke. Lulu holds a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Classical Piano Performance and a Master of Music with First Class Honours in Piano Pedagogy. She is also a certified Orff Schulwerk teacher.
Lulu’s postgraduate research focused on the psychology of young learners and the development of healthy piano techniques. She studied innovative approaches such as Rae de Lisle’s Fit 4 Piano and Penelope Roskell’s method The Complete Pianist, both of which have deeply shaped her teaching philosophy. Her lessons combine evidence-based technique with creativity, resulting in engaging and effective learning experiences.
With over seven years of teaching experience, Lulu has developed a unique and dynamic approach to piano education. Her lessons are filled with interactive games and playful challenges, designed to keep young learners focused, motivated, and building solid technique from the very beginning.
That being said, Lulu is equally dedicated to helping students achieve formal musical milestones. She has successfully guided students through advanced levels such as ABRSM Grade 8 and diploma examinations, as well as music theory qualifications. Her teaching balances joy with structure, nurturing both expressive freedom and academic success.
Lulu is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, and is able to teach effectively in all three languages.
