Esther Lee

Esther Lee is an Auckland based cellist and teacher, currently performing as a casual cellist with the Auckland Philharmonia. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Music Performance (Cello) with distinction from Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, where she studied under Professor Inbal Megiddo. Esther graduated with the Dean’s Award for Excellence and has received several scholarships and awards throughout her musical training, including the Therle Drake Postgraduate Scholarship, NZSM Director’s Award, and NZSM Performance Excellence Award.

Esther began learning the cello at the age of five and received her early training at the Pettman National Junior Academy under Edith Salzmann. She has since developed extensive experience as an orchestral, chamber, and solo musician, performing with ensembles including the Auckland Philharmonia. During her time at the New Zealand School of Music, she was Principal Cellist of the NZSM Orchestra for three consecutive years and performed regularly in chamber music projects, concerts, and festivals.

Alongside her performing career, Esther has experience teaching cello in both private and group settings. She has taught students of different ages and experience levels, helping them develop strong technique, musicality, confidence, and enjoyment of the instrument. She also has experience preparing students for ABRSM and Trinity College London examinations.
